On 31. July, 1979, Kiss took part in a special photo session for GAF Corporation’s upcoming View-Master 3-D reels at the Providence Civic Center in Providence, Rhode Island, during the band’s two-night stand on the “Return Of Kiss” (Dynasty) tour.
The session was conducted during the Providence concerts on 31. July and 1. August, with collector sources generally attributing the photography to Glenn M. Brown. The resulting View-Master set featured a mixture of carefully posed images designed specifically for the 3-D effect, along with photographs taken during the “Return Of Kiss” tour. The finished product was released later in 1979 as a three-reel set containing 21 stereoscopic color images, allowing fans to experience Kiss in three dimensions at the height of the “Dynasty” era.
Although no contemporary production records have surfaced confirming exactly which photographs were taken on 31. July versus 1. August, the Providence Civic Center sessions are widely recognized as the source of the iconic View-Master images that became one of the more unusual pieces of official Kiss merchandise released during the 1979 tour.
