On 23. April 1981, Kiss entered SIR’s Studio D in New York to start writing and rehearsing the songs for “(Music from) The Elder”.

Tim McPhate & Julian Gill:
“The first proper studio rehearsals were scheduled for April 23 – 25 at SIR’s Studio D, at their 310 West 52nd Street facility in New York City. These rehearsals were planned to allow the band to rehearse material before Bob joined them at SIR’s Studio B, at 250 West 54th Street, on April 28 through May 1. Studio A, at the same facility, but without Bob, was booked for Gene and Eric, May 4 – 6, and the whole band, May 7 & 8. The album sessions were scheduled to commence on May 11 at Phase One Studios in Toronto, with the plan being to record material in small batches and then return to rehearsals to refine further songs. Simply put it seems that the band didn’t have enough material to record the whole album in one go.”
