On January 24th and 25th 1975 Kiss entered Larrabee Studios, Los Angeles, to record a four track demo.

Jeff Suhs:
“One of the highlights from the Larrabee session is the track “Mistake” which was written for the first album. The song is an outright country and western ballad in G featuring acoustic guitars bottleneck slides and an overall vibe much more consistent with Wicked Lester than even acoustic offerings like “Hard Luck Woman”. The fact that Paul sings lead on the verses may indicate that he penned the song, though no byline is included on any of the paperwork. Gene clearly shares vocal duties on the verses and on a brief bridge that modulates from G up to B. There are sporadic embellishments throughout that might qualify as a solo though they are such standard licks that it’s impossible to determine who is playing them. As it stands it is the earliest demo for an unreleased Kiss song known to exist.”
